Clutch is an essential part of a manual transmission system. Basically, it is a device that connects or disconnects the power source to the gear. The clutch function is to transmit the torque from the engine to the wheels via the gearbox at different speeds. It allows the clutch disc and the engine to rotate independently for the purpose of changing gear. This situation reduces the pressure in the gearbox and greatly facilitates the gear changes.

 

The main working component of a motorcycle clutch is the friction discs. The friction discs stacked alternately in the clutch housing. When the discs are compressed together, the force applied and amount of friction generated between the discs allows the engine to transfer torque power to the gear shaft. The secret of a good clutch control is to release the clutch pedal slowly and gradually. With this, you will be able to engage gears more smoothly.

 

Clutch has close contact with the gearbox. Both of these components work together. The gearbox allows the rider to use the optimum amount of power from the engine in accordance with the rider’s requirement. Its main function is to reduce strain on the engine by supplying efficient power at the required time. Lower gear serves as a brake and also improve acceleration when needed. For instance, when riding downhill on a lower gear, it will provide an effective braking power; on the contrary, it will provide extra power when riding uphill.
